Family History Research and Your Family Tree

Are you researching your family story and trying to build your family tree from the very roots, grow its trunk, then branches to produce leaves that will unlock your family history? We have many families who stay with us here in order to further their research into their ancestors' links with Dumfries and Galloway as a whole or this part of the Colvend Coast in particular.

Researching your Scottish family roots is an exciting and rewarding experience. Visiting places of interest first-hand that your ancestors visited or lived in many years ago is part of an epic journey that will, hopefully, lead to discoveries you may not even have dreamt of.

Galloway Lodges will help you to enhance and embrace your ancestry research, especially now that we are part of Visit Scotland's 'Ancestral Tourism Welcome' scheme.

On arrival, you wll discover that our holiday lodges provide much more information on how to delve further into your past with a dedicated folder and reference books to help with your journey of discovery.

Galloway Lodges in Dumfries and Galloway is the perfect base to explore your family history while Southern Scotland’s numerous places of interest will help to provide you with the information you need.

Where to start

We are very lucky to be close to the Dumfries and Galloway Family History Society in Dumfries, a short drive from Galloway Lodges.

Their premises in central Dumfries are open from April to October to promote the study of family history and to facilitate the work of researchers in the counties of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire.
